Can I see the storage unit before booking to make sure it fits my needs?

Yes! Please contact us to make an appointment to view the storage unit before you book.

How long do I have to rent my storage unit for?

Our storage units require a minimum of 1 month, after that the lease is month to month and you can store for as long as you need to!

My lease is month to month, how much notice do I need to give when I'm ready to move out of my unit?

Since leases are month to month, a 28 day written notice that you intend to move out is required prior to the date of your next renewal.

Can I use my own lock on my storage unit?

Yes, you can use your own lock for your storage unit. We recommend making sure whatever lock you choose is rated for use outdoors because moisture and temperature fluctuations can effect the integrity of a lock.

Do you provide locks for my storage unit?

We can provide a lock for your unit, please contact us if you need one!

If I'm a business renting a storage unit do you have a forklift available for deliveries?

Yes! We have the ability to accept deliveries at our facility and a forklift for use if needed. Please contact us to arrange this. Frequent deliveries may result in additional fees or increased rent.

Is the storage unit facility plowed when it snows?

Yes! Everything is plowed when we get snow, however, you may need to shovel a little bit directly in front of your unit.

What size storage units are available?

We have several sizes available:

How big of a storage unit do I need?

The right storage unit size depends on how much you’re storing and how you plan to organize it. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose:

• 10×10 (100 sq ft) – Ideal for a one-bedroom apartment or small office; holds furniture, appliances, and multiple boxes.

• 10×15 (150 sq ft) – Works well for a two-bedroom home or larger furniture sets.

• 10×20 (200 sq ft) – Perfect for a multi-bedroom house, business inventory, or even a vehicle.

• 10x25 (250 sq ft) – This is about the size of a one car garage; can hold the contents of a 3-4 bedroom home.

• 10x30 (300 sq ft) – Can typically hold the contents of a 4-5 bedroom home, approximately the size of a 1.5 car garage.

• 10x40 (400 sq ft) – Ideal for large household moves, estate storage, major renovations, large commercial inventory or vehicle/boat storage.

Pro tip: If you’re unsure, go slightly bigger. Extra space makes it easier to access your items without unpacking everything. Our team is always happy to help you pick the right size based on what you’re storing.

What are the dimensions of the storage unit door?

The doors to the storage units are 9 ft wide and 8 ft tall.

What are the inside dimensions of the storage unit?

The interior of the storage units have 9 ft ceilings and are 10 ft wide.

Can I change storage unit sizes after I’ve moved in?

Absolutely! If you find that you have either too much or too little space in your unit, we’ll help you switch to a unit that better suits your needs, as long as that size is available.

Is your storage unit facility climate controlled?

No, Sun Prairie – Columbus Self Storage does not have climate controlled units.

Is there electrical available in the storage units?

No, there is not electrical available in any of the units.

Can I store a vehicle, motorcycle or boat in a storage unit?

Yes! Vehicles, motorcycles and boats can be stored in our units. All vehicles, motorcycles and/or boats must be registered and insured under a current policy.

Can I work on a vehicles, motorcycle or boat in a storage unit?

No, storage units are for storage only and can’t be used as workshops or repair spaces for safety and insurance reasons. If you’re unsure whether a specific activity may be allowed, please contact us and our team will be happy to clarify for you!

Can I run a business from a storage unit?

No, the storage units are intended for storage purposes only. They cannot be used as offices, retail spaces, or work sites.

That said, many customers do use storage units to store inventory or equipment for their business.

Can I rent more than one storage unit at a time?

Yes! Please contact us for more information if you need to rent an additional storage unit.

I accidentally rented the wrong sized storage unit, what do I do?

If you rented the wrong sized storage unit please call us and we will help get you moved to the size you need.

How far in advance can I rent a storage unit?

We allow storage units to be booked up to 21 days in advance.

What do you need to rent a storage unit?

To rent a storage unit you will need a government issued ID and a credit card.

How do I pay for my storage unit?

Payments are automatically processed monthly on the anniversary date of your move in with the credit card information provided when you rented your unit.

Is the price I rented my storage unit at guaranteed for the duration of the time I rent?

No, Sun Prairie – Columbus Self Storage works hard to keep prices low while still maintaining a safe, secure and clean facility, however rental rates may change over time due to operating costs, market conditions or other factors.

If a price adjustment occurs, you will receive advance notice before the increase happens.

How do I report a problem with my storage unit?

If there is a problem with your storage unit at move in or at any other time please contact us at 608-669-1716.

There’s damage to the storage unit, what should I do?

Please report any damage to the storage unit as soon as possible. Do not attempt to make any repairs yourself. Quick notification helps us get the issue addressed right away and prevents any further damage or safety concerns.

Does renters or homeowners insurance cover my storage unit?

In some cases, renters or homeowners insurance may provide limited coverage for items stored off-site, including in a storage unit. Because coverage and exclusions vary by policy, please contact your insurance provider to confirm coverage. Sun Prairie – Columbus Self Storage cannot guarantee any coverage by your insurance policy.
